Department of Labor Promotes Mental Health in the Workplace

Labor officials met in Boston to support mental health strategies in work environments.

The U.S. Department of Labor sent officials to Boston to participate in an event at the Iron Workers Local 7 Union Hall that stressed the importance of mental-health-friendly workplaces, particularly within the building trades sector. The event highlighted the mental health initiatives implemented by the union, which align with the administration’s strategy to reform mental health care and address mental health issues in the U.S.

The roundtable brought together leaders from regional unions, building contractors, and experts in substance use disorders and prevention and treatment, with key participants including Deputy Chief of Staff John Towle, Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Doug Parker, Principal Deputy Secretary for Employee Benefits Security Ali Khawar, and Assistant Secretary for Disability Employment Policy Taryn Williams.

“At the core of our mission is supporting America’s workers, and that requires a holistic approach that recognizes the relationship between mental health and work,” said Deputy Chief of Staff Towle. “This is the premise behind our Mental Health at Work initiative, which is leveraging resources from across the department to help employers and workers foster supportive workplaces that prioritize mental health and increase access to support, for all workers.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Deputy Chief of Staff Towle to seek God’s guidance as he fills his role in the Labor Department.
  • For discernment for Assistant Secretary Parker as he oversees OSHA.
  • For U.S. labor officials as they seek to care for the mental health of American workers.
